Essence Stories
Here are a few of our “Inspire” Families. Watch, read, or learn more about “Essence Stories“—
how we share experiences that have deep meaning and a profound impact on us.
The Suehs-Vassel Family
This beautiful adoption story illustrates that there is more than one path to parenthood and often, more than one title for the roles of mom and dad.
The Hunter Family
“I thought I had it bad when I had no shoes, then I met the person who had no feet.” A family’s story of gratitude.
The Granek Family
Dr. Brian Granek had it all — until he didn’t. His wife’s ATV accident changed their lives yet he’s decided to make the most of being dad and mom.

Casey Gomes
Casey Gomes, as you know by now, is the Founder and President of Parents Inspire. He is also passionate about sports and considers himself a die-hard “New England Terps” fan. So, yes, Tom Brady is the greatest football player of all time – there is no debate. Casey coaches his kids in every sport they play (at least initially), writes down his thoughts whenever possible, and can be found with a Maker’s on the rocks in his hands on the weekends. Thanks to his son, in his adult life, he found a love for performing in musical theater. Casey is most passionately a husband and father. He is humbled and grateful every day for this experience.
Remy Shaffer Gomes
Remy is happiest with a book in hand and toes in the sand. The middle of three girls, she is a perpetual harmony seeker. When not correcting people on how to pronounce her name, you can find her begrudgingly exercising, spending time with her family, or curling her eyelashes. Remy is not certain her life is blog-worthy but truly believes everyone’s story is worth telling. Remy absolutely loves being a mother and she hopes to be able to cartwheel until she is really, really old.
Rob Smith
Rob Smith is a writer, teacher, wage earner and all-around evil genius, who spends most of his time in his cluttered home office in central Pennsylvania, listening to jazz and arena rock records and typing. He has contributed to many publications over the years, including Rhino.com, Ultimate Classic Rock, Diffuser.fm, Popdose, Soundview Executive Book Summaries and Podiatry Today.

Believe it or not while John was raised in Baltimore, steamed crabs are not his thing. BUT, he knows full well that ordering steamed crabs or anything that is called “Maryland Crab” anywhere outside of the greater Baltimore area is a complete waste of time, especially if it doesn’t have Old Bay (the actual proper pronunciation is O’Bay). He lives and dies with his beloved Orioles and Ravens.
After spending over 20 years of his life as a firefighter and EMT, he now works as a licensed behavioral therapist, with a primary focus on trauma in the fire service population.
